Power Plant Engineer


SUMMARY
  • Reporting to the Director of Refining, this is a salaried position, working independently or in a team to plan, implement, and coordinate improvements to the facility's power generation performance in order to optimize the safe production of steam and electricity through the application of sound engineering expertise.

FUNCTIONS

Primary Responsibilities/Essential Functions

  • Abide by all Company policies outlined in the Employee Handbook and comply with all Company, Local, State and Federal regulations relating to Health, Safety, Operations, etc.
  • Successfully participate in and complete all periodic Company designated safety training, supervisory and management skills training and/or certifications related to the position.
  • Utilize the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to analyze current and past production of steam and electricity, and develop engineering solutions to maximize production.
  • Develop and implement capital improvement and maintenance or repair projects. Manage these projects from inception to completion.
  • Train supervisors, craftsmen, and operators in the proper maintenance and operation of boilers, turbo-generators, and ancillary equipment, to include regular reviews of boiler set-ups, and monitoring of boiler and turbine performance.
  • Monitor boiler and turbo-generator performance on a daily basis. Recommend combustion control operational changes to maximize plant efficiency.
  • Prepare outage job packages (RFQ's), send out for bid, and manage work for routine and emergency Boiler maintenance, Valve maintenance, Turbine maintenance, ESP maintenance, and all NDE inspections. Will oversee all contracted maintenance work for quality assurance and work with Planners to plan all work and develop the necessary parts procurement orders.
  • Oversee the OEE initiative event log, working daily with operators and programmers. Develop necessary tables, lists, etc. to identify and eliminate bad actor problems.
  • Perform all boiler internal inspections after lock-out and cleaning, and lead all boiler compliance testing.
  • Complete annual reports for Department of Energy.
  • Provide engineering support for special projects, including configuration management and document control.
  • Provide periodic on-call coverage for emergency response, and may occasionally be required to provide management coverage when necessary.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Must be 18 years of age or older and maintain a valid driver's license.
  • Hold a bachelors degree in Mechanical, Marine, or Electrical engineering. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in the operation and maintenance of industrial / power boilers, turbo-generators and ancillary equipment.
  • Must have at least 10 years of applicable experience, preferably in a solid fuels environment.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with a Project Manager Certification, or have Project Management experience.
  • Must be able to establish good working relationships with employees, including the ability coach and mentor for performance.
  • Must be proficient in MS Excel, CAD, and SAP or similar software. Incumbents will be required to master SAP within a reasonable amount of time.
  • Demonstrate physical ability to perform the essential functions of the job. Applicant must be in good health and physically able to perform all phases of the work.
  • Applicant must be able to read, write and speak the English language in order to comprehend instructions on the job and in the classroom, to communicate via radio, to write and interpret policies and procedures, and to ensure personal and co-worker safety on the job.
  • New hires must pass a drug test and other pre-employment background screening, and successfully complete any required training or orientation course.

WORKING CONDITIONS
  • 30% of the work environment is conducted in an open outdoor environment, exposed to heights and rapidly changing temperatures including extreme heat, weather conditions, blowing dust and particles, burning bulk and liquid fuel, while wearing PPE (i.e.:
    hard hat, goggles, hair net, ear plugs, and/or full body chemical resistant suites), regularly climbing stairs, kneeling, crawling, bending, stooping, reaching, and walking on uneven ground containing trip hazards.
  • 70% of the work environment is conducted in an environmentally controlled office, operating computerized equipment containing colored flashing lights sound indicators while using repetitive hand and eye movements.

Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
