Human Resources Certification Specialist

PRIMARY FUNCTION:
This position is responsible for informing and assisting applicants and employees with certification matters; for processing certification applications; and for maintaining up-to-date records.

Education Level:
High school diploma; Preferred:
College courses or degree in business.
Experience, Skill, and Certification:
At least three years business office experience Knowledge of the personnel policies, procedures, and regulations for the Savannah-Chatham County Public School System (SCCPSS) Ability to interpret and explain rules, policies, and procedures and apply them appropriately.
Knowledge of local, State, and Federal legislation regarding employment practices, procedures, and employee relations.
Ability to maintain complex clerical records and prepare reports from various statistical and financial material.
Ability to make work decisions in accordance with rules, regulations, and departmental policies.
Demonstrable oral and written communications skills for communicating with internal and external customers in situations that may involve conflict or complex detail.
Demonstrable skill with Microsoft Office software PREFERRED:
Familiarity with the district's human resources computer system.
Work experience in a human resources office.
Familiarity with the Georgia Professional Standards Commission and certification rules.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Maintains current certificate information and other personnel data on certificated employees.
Creates, distributes, and files contracts for certificated employees.
Determines expiring certificates and in-service requirements; assists applicants with certification requirements.
Verifies prior employment, education and certification for new hires; determines correct level of pay; assists employees with new hire documentation.
Maintains detailed records of all certification and pay concerns.
Communicates with the Georgia Professional Standards Commission (GAPSC) as to the status of certificates.
Notifies schools and departments of any changes made by the GAPSC concerning certification requirements.
Compiles reports and other documentation as necessary; assists with the Georgia Certified/Classified Personnel Information (CPI) report.
Provides direction to teachers regarding certification, completion of forms and other related concerns.
Processes all transfers, supplements, and all types of certificates.
Identifies and notifies employees without certificates and those with expiring or incorrect certificates of importance of obtaining or renewing certificate.
Performs other duties as necessary for the effectiveness of the organization.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT Incumbents will be considered at will.
Appropriate pay will be determined based on the Grade as determined by Human Resources and allowable experience.
The work calendar will be 250 days.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
